Outreach
Services
How
To Participate
The Repertory
conducts a number of important outreach services. Phone inquiries
should be directed to Repertory offices, 313-868-1347 or Email DetRepTh@aol.com
or click here to fill out an online
form.
Charitable
Partnerships
The Detroit Repertory Theatre Charitable Outreach Program helps
groups and organizations help the needy by providing them with an
inexpensive venue to raise
funds. The return on investment for booking a performance can be
as high as 300
or 400 percent. Charitable causes raise over $200,000 a year in
this manner. Interested parties can inquire about a fundraising
partnership with the Repertory by contacting DRT Group Sales Manager,
Annie Cross. Find out more about Fundraisers.
Cultural
Fellowship Program
The Cultural Fellowship Program is an educational service by which
tickets are systematically distributed to clients of social and
private agencies serving the disenfranchised, the challenged, and
the underserved from the inner and outer city so that they can attend
performances at the Detroit Repertory Theatre on a regular basis.
60 to 80 agencies partner with the Repertory each year. The Cultural
Fellowship Program recognizes that regular attendance is necessary
if the cultural experience is to impact effectively. The goal is
to help create an alternative life style, not merely provide a visit.
Agencies can form a Cultural Fellowship Partnership with the DRT
by contacting DRT Director of Outreach Programs, Dee Andrus.
CMO
Partnerships
The Repertory partners with StarrVista Inc. Care Management Organizations
(CMOs) to give intimate theatre experiences and theatre training
opportunities to at-risk children and youth offenders in the Wayne
County Juvenile Justice System to help efforts to redirect their
lives. The DRT is the only artistic venue associated with this program.
StarrVista Private and Social Agencies can form a CMO Partnership
with the DRT by contacting Director of Outreach Programs, Dee Andrus.
Free
Acting Workshop
The Acting Workshop Program provides professional instruction in
all phases of theatre, especially but not exclusively, to persons
who are financially constrained, or cannot attend institutional
programs, but still wish to pursue a theatrical career, revive a
dormant interest in theatre, or simply investigate a need for self-expression.
Individuals may inquire about scholarships, tuition and participation
in the DRT Acting Workshop by contacting the DRT Workshop Director,
William Boswell.
Arts
in Education Programs
The Detroit Repertory Theatre Arts in Education In-school Programs
include teaching drama (1) as part of school curriculums or as an
extra curricular activity (2) as part of a school's multi-arts program,
or (3) as total integration of the arts with the core-curricula
of the school. The Repertory conducts Arts Centered Education (ACE)
Programs which enhance learning by integrating the arts into language
arts, math, social studies, and science. The Repertory serves as
the Anchor Organization for a partnership between ACE programming
in schools and Learning Via Arts.
The Repertory
Arts in Education Program also conducts after-school and summer
programming for elementary, middle and high school levels, which
includes drama, dance and visual arts, for various organizations,
including Communities in Schools, The Children's Center of Wayne
County, and the Empowerment Zone Coalition. School systems, School
systems, Churches and other Bodies wishing to form an Educational
Partnership with the DRT may contact the DRT Director of Education,
Milfordean Luster.
New
Playwrights' Program
The New Playwrights Program was established in 1976 to give
authors a place for professional production of their original scripts,
and to bring the works of new writers to the attention of theatregoers
in Southeastern Michigan. Special attention is given to Michigan
playwrights. Scripts are read and evaluated by a team of theatre
professionals. An evaluation is sent to the author. Playwrights
wishing to submit scripts for consideration should address scripts
to the Detroit Repertory Theatre, c/o The Literary Manager, 13103
Woodrow Wilson, Detroit 48238-3686. A self addressed return envelope
and postage should be included.
Lobby
Gallery
Original paintings and photographs are displayed in the lobby of
the Repertory throughout the DRTs season. Michigan artists
submit their portfolios. When chosen, their works are exhibited
and sold during the run of each DRT production. The Rep collects
no commission. Artists wishing to exhibit in the DRT Lobby Gallery
may contact the DRT Gallery Manager, Gilda Snowden.
